The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met this day at 1:17 p.m., in the Sheraton South Room, Sheraton Cavalier, the chair, the Honourable Diane F. Griffin, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Griffin and Maltais (2).

In attendance: Aïcha Coulibaly, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament; Marcy Galipeau, Communications Officer, Senate Communications Directorate.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, March 9, 2017, the committee continued its study on the potential impact of the effects of climate change on the agriculture, agri-food and forestry sectors. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 26).

Vern Baron, Research Scientist, Sustainable Production Systems, Lacombe Research and Development Centre, Science and Technology Branch;

Henry Janzen, Research Scientist, Soil Biochemistry, Lethbridge Research and Development Centre, Science and Technology Branch.

The chair made a statement.

Mr. Hernandez Ramirez and Mr. Shotyk made statements and answered questions.

At 2:19 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 2:33 p.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Baron and Mr. Janzen made statements and answered questions.

At 3:25 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
