Proceedings of the Standing Committee on
Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration

Issue No. 1 - Evidence - February 4, 2016

OTTAWA, Thursday, February 4, 2016

The Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration, pursuant to rule 12-7(1), met this day at 9 a.m., in public, for the consideration of financial and administrative matters; and, in camera, for the consideration of financial and administrative matters.

Senator Leo Housakos (Chair) in the chair.

[English]

The Chair: Colleagues, good morning. I'd like to get right into the items on the agenda. I know all of you are very busy today, it being Thursday.

Item 1 on the public side of the agenda is the adoption of the minutes of proceedings of January 13, 2016. Has everyone had time to peruse the document? Are there any questions? If not, do I have a motion to adopt?

Senator Lang: Just a couple of comments, if I could. It was a meeting that I didn't attend.

To clarify for the record, are we talking about the minutes of January 13? Is that what we're dealing with?

The Chair: Yes, the public side of the minutes.

Senator Lang: And the recommendations from that meeting?

The Chair: Just the minutes of the public section of that meeting.

Senator Lang: I just wanted to make sure. I'm on page 2 of 5 of the document that I have here.

Senator Wells: Page 1 of 2.

Senator Lang: But the minutes. We're being asked to adopt this, right?

I want to make a couple of observations, if I could. First of all, I wasn't in attendance. I'll be abstaining on these minutes because I wasn't here for the course of the deliberations.

The Chair: If you want to talk about the issue on the in camera side of the minutes, that will be later on. This is an adoption of the public version of the minutes. So if you have a question on this, senator, we'll entertain it. If you have a question on the minutes of the other side of the proceedings that were not public, we can engage that later. I suspect the questions that you have are for the in camera meeting.

Senator Wells: I think you may be working from a different sheet.

The Chair: I'm just trying to adopt the public minutes. Then we can go in camera.

Senator Lang: How come I don't have that one?

Mr. Chairman, I think I'm clear. I will save my comments for when we go in camera. I will take it from there, but I sure have a few things to say.

The Chair: That's fine.

If no one has any questions on the adoption of the minutes of proceedings of the public portion, can I have somebody move it, please?

Moved by Senator Doyle, seconded by Senator Wells.

All in favour?

Hon. Senators: Agreed.

The Chair: Thank you.

Now we will go in camera.

(The committee continued in camera.)
