The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day at 4:17 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Kelvin Kenneth Ogilvie, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Beyak, Eggleton, P.C., Frum, Merchant, Nancy Ruth, Ogilvie and Stewart Olsen (7).

In attendance: Sonya Norris, analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament; Silvina Danesi, procedural clerk, Senate Committees Directorate.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, February 23, 2016, the committee continued its study on the issue of dementia in our society. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No.2.)

WITNESSES:

As individuals:

Dr. Andrew Kirk, Professor and Head, Division of Neurology, University of Saskatchewan, Rural Dementia Action Research Network (RaDAR);

Wayne Warry, Director, Centre for Rural and Northern Health Research, Laurentian University.

Assembly of First Nations:

Norma Rabbitskin, Senior Health Nurse, Sturgeon Lake First Nation Health Centre;

Isadore Day, National Health Portfolio Holder, AFN Regional Chief, Ontario.

The chair made an opening statement.

Dr. Kirk, Mr. Warry and Chief Day each made a statement and, together with Ms. Rabbitskin, answered questions.

At 5:42 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
