The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day at 4:16 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Kelvin Kenneth Ogilvie, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Cormier, Dean, Eggleton, P.C., Frum, Hartling, McPhedran, Mégie, Neufeld, Ogilvie, Petitclerc, Raine, Seidman and Stewart Olsen (13).
Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Griffin (1).
In attendance: Sonya Norris and Marlisa Tiedemann, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, March 9, 2017, the committee began its examination of Bill S-5, An Act to amend the Tobacco Act and the Non-smokers' Health Act and to make consequential amendments to other Acts.

The chair made a statement.
Ms. Tilson and Mr. Jones each made a statement and, together with Ms. Beck and Ms. Blancher, answered questions.
At 5:13 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 5:16 p.m., the committee resumed.
Mr. Chera, Mr. Tremblay Drolet and Mr. Grant each made a statement and answered questions.
At 6:11 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
