Presentation of Reports from Standing or Special Committees

The Honourable Senator DeWare, Chairman of the Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology, presented its Tenth Report (budget-travel re study on post-secondary education).

Ordered, That the Report be printed as an Appendix to the Journals of the Senate of this day and form part of the permanent records of this House.

The Standing Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs has the honour to present its

SEVENTEENTH REPORT

Your Committee, to which was referred Bill C-45, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (judicial review of parole ineligibility) and another Act, has, in obedience to the Order of Reference of Tuesday, October 22, 1996, examined the said Bill and now reports the same without amendment but with the following proposal:

It is the proposal of your Committee that the Minister of Justice use whatever measures at his/her disposal to inform the public about section 745.6, including discussions with provincial Attorneys General, so that together they may find the means by which victims' families could have full knowledge of this section.

The Honourable Senator Bosa moved, seconded by the Honourable Senator Rizzuto, that the Bill be read the third time.

The Bill was then read the third time and passed.

Ordered, That a Message be sent to the House of Commons to acquaint that House that the Senate have passed this Bill, without amendment.

Resuming debate on the motion of the Honourable Senator Bryden, seconded by the Honourable Senator Taylor, for the second reading of a Bill C-63, An Act to amend the Canada Elections Act, the Parliament of Canada Act and the Referendum Act.
