The Standing Senate Committee on Official Languages has the honour to present its

THIRD REPORT

Your Committee, which was authorized by the Senate on Thursday, April 27, 2006, to study and to report from time to time on the application of the Official Languages Act and of the regulations and directives made under it, within those institutions subject to the Act, respectfully requests the approval of funds for fiscal year ending March 31, 2007, and requests that it be empowered to engage the services of such counsel, technical, clerical and other personnel as may be necessary and to adjourn from place to place within Canada for the purpose of its study.

Pursuant to Chapter 3:06, section 2(1)(c) of the Senate Administrative Rules, the budget submitted to the Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration and the report thereon of that Committee are appended to this report.

APPLICATION FOR BUDGET AUTHORIZATION
FOR THE FISCAL YEAR ENDING MARCH 31, 2007

Extract from the Journals of the Senate of Thursday, April 27, 2006:

The Honourable Senator Chaput moved, seconded by the Honourable Senator Ringuette:

That the Standing Senate Committee on Official Languages be authorized to study and to report from time to time on the application of the Official Languages Act and of the regulations and directives made under it, within those institutions subject to the Act;

That the Committee be authorized to study the reports and papers produced by the Minister of Official Languages, the President of the Treasury Board, the Minister of Canadian Heritage and the Commissioner of Official Languages as well as any other material concerning official languages generally;

That papers and evidence received and taken during the Thirty-eighth Parliament be referred to the Committee; and

That the Committee report from time to time to the Senate but no later than June 30, 2007.

The Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration has examined the budget presented to it by the Senate Standing Committee on Official Languages for the proposed expenditures of the said Committee for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2007 for the purpose of its Special Study on the application of the Official Languages Act, as authorized by the Senate on Thursday, April 27, 2006.
