The Subcommittee on Communications met this day at 5:12 p.m., in room 256-S, Centre Block, the Chair, the Honourable Marie-P. Poulin, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Finestone, P.C., Johnson, Poulin and Spivak (4).
Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Banks and Nolin (2).
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Terrence Thomas, and Tony Hodgkinson, Researcher for the subcommittee.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, February 23, 2000, and the Orders of Reference adopted by Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications on Wednesday, February 16, 2000 and Wednesday, March 1, 2000, the subcommittee continued its study of the policy issues for the 21st century in communications technology, its consequence, competition and the outcome for consumers. It was moved by Senator Finestone -- That the subcommittee concur in the following revised budget application for the purpose of its special study on the policy issues for the 21st century in communications technology, its consequence, competition and the outcome for consurmers:

It was moved by Senator Spivak -- That Tony Hodgkinson be authorised to attend the fact finding mission regarding E-commerce of the Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce in Chicago from May 29-31, 2000.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

The Chair asked the witnesses to file answers to questions posed by members to the Clerk of the Committee.
