The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day, in camera, in room 705, Victoria Building, at 2:05 p.m., the Chair, the Honourable Michael Kirby, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Callbeck, Cook, Cordy, Fairbairn, P.C., Keon, Kirby, LeBreton, Morin, Pépin and Robertson (10).

In attendance: Odette Madore and Howard Chodos from the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: Alvin Cader and John Burke, Media Consultants.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, March 1, 2001, the committee continued its consideration of the special study on the state of the health care system in Canada. (For complete text of Order of Reference see Proceedings of the Committee, Issue No. 2.)

The committee began its consideration of a draft report.

The sitting was suspended at 4:02 p.m.

The sitting resumed at 4:12 p.m.

At 5:25 p.m. the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
