Ottawa – The Standing Committee on Audit and Oversight has released its latest annual report.

The report summarizes the work of the committee during the 2022-2023 fiscal year and includes information regarding the external audit of the Senate’s financial statements.

The report also notes that a competitive hiring process for the position of Chief Audit Executive, who will be accountable to the committee and lead the Senate’s internal audit function, is underway. Under the direction of the committee, the Chief Audit Executive will undertake the important task of establishing the Senate’s first multi-year, risk-based internal audit plan.

The committee has also been carefully considering the practices of other legislative audit and oversight committees as it seeks to learn more about the best practices of its Westminster counterparts.

The committee will continue to work to the highest standards in its audit and oversight role for the purposes of integrity, independence, transparency and accountability.
