Senate will not outsource its payroll
OTTAWA – The Senate has decided not to pursue its move to outsource its payroll to an outside provider. The decision means that the Senate will continue with the Phoenix pay system.
Since the Senate first embarked on its payroll autonomy project, the payroll landscape has evolved. While users still experience difficulties with the current system, the frequency of errors at the Senate has decreased significantly. In addition, the Senate’s in-house compensation advisors have developed effective work-arounds and capacity to promptly fix any errors.
Project work recently completed indicated that the new payroll system could not function without extensive, ongoing manual intervention, impacting efficiency.
QUOTE:
“The Senate takes the compensation of our employees seriously. We will continue to take all necessary measures to ensure they are paid accurately and on time. In making this decision, we are ensuring the efficient use of taxpayers’ dollars, as well as our commitment to transparency and accountability.”
