Quotes

“It is our duty as senators to consult Canadians and to inform ourselves on how this proposed income tax reform will impact their day to day lives. It’s the role of a Senate committee to provide a forum so all points of views can be heard. These public consultations are part of a democratic process established by the Senate Committee on National Finance. A report will be tabled in which we will be asking the government to respond to our recommendations in a timely manner."

- Senator Percy Mockler, Chair of the committee

“Our Senate National Finance Committee will embark shortly on their Committee Public Hearings across Canada. Canadians are interested in Finance Minister Bill Morneau’s proposed changes to the Income Tax Act, which proposed changes are of deep concern to them, coast to coast, particularly those who may be affected directly. Cross country Committee hearings are, predictably, productive and exciting, as the Committee members take hold of the issues and concerns raised by those who appear before it. Undoubtedly, our Committee will be uplifted by the participation of our Canadian public in this exercise, which is part and parcel of the development of public policy respecting the raising of taxes, and amending the Income Tax Act.”

- Senator Anne C. Cools, Deputy Chair of the committee
