Wednesday, September 7, 2022 – Senator Ratna Omidvar (second from the left) chaired a panel discussion hosted by the Renewing our Democratic Alliance on refugee policy at the Embassy of Canada in Berlin, Germany. She was joined by (from left) Toronto Metropolitan University Professor Craig Damian Smith, Canadian International Council President Ben Rowswell, Chargée d’affaires of Canada to Germany Isabelle Poupart, and Canadian International Council Distinguished Fellow Jeremy Kinsman.
Tuesday, September 13, 2022 – Senator Brian Francis visits Pituamkek (Hog Island Sandhills) located near Lennox Island First Nation in Prince Edward Island (known as Epekwitk in Mi’kmaw). He joined L’nuey and other Epekwitnewaq Mi’kmaq to discuss the significance of the site, where work is underway to establish a national park reserve, and areas that may require special attention or protection.
Tuesday, September 13, 2022 – Senator Jim Quinn attends the naming ceremony of the Canadian Coast Guard’s new search and rescue vessel “Shediac Bay,” which will be stationed in Saint John, New Brunswick. Senator Quinn, who served 23 years with the Coast Guard and is the descendent of generations of Saint John harbour pilots, is the proud sponsor of the vessel.
Wednesday, September 14, 2022 – Senator Amina Gerba celebrates the 30th anniversary of the Rotary Club of Old Montreal with Michel Wong Kee Song, Governor of Rotary District 7040. Senator Gerba expressed her appreciation for the charitable work of Rotary members.
Friday, September 16, 2022 – Interns with the Parliamentary Internship Programme meet with senators Kim Pate (centre left) and David M. Wells (centre right) to learn more about the Upper Chamber and senators’ day-to-day work. The programme is a unique work and learning opportunity for young, non-partisan Canadians. Among other responsibilities, interns shadow and assist members of Parliament during their 10-month tenure.
Sunday, September 18, 2022 – Senator Patricia Bovey (third from the right) is named an honorary member of Canadian Black Artists United during a panel discussion hosted by the organization at the RBC Convention Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The organization’s founder, Manitoba artist Yisa Akinbolaji (third from the left), was featured in the first edition of the Senate’s Honouring Canada’s Black Artists series and presented Senator Bovey with a plaque to commemorate her induction for increasing awareness of immigrant artists — including Black artists — across Canada.
Tuesday, September 20, 2022 - Senator Lucie Moncion, a committed francophonie activist, welcomes members of l’Assemblée de la francophonie de l’Ontario to her office to discuss the need for greater investment in post-secondary education and francophone community organizations.
Wednesday, September 21, 2022 – Senators Salma Ataullahjan, David M. Arnot, Amina Gerba and Victor Oh visit Clarkson Secondary School in Mississauga, Ontario. As a complement to the Senate Committee on Human Rights’ study on Islamophobia, the senators spoke with students involved in the school’s Muslim Students Association about their experiences at school and in their community.
Wednesday, September 21, 2022 – Senator Stan Kutcher (far left) participates in a panel discussion on the future of science and researching funding in Canada, hosted by the University of Ottawa’s faculty of medicine during Science Literacy Week. The panellists touched on the importance of increasing investments in basic science in Canada, an appeal Senator Kutcher has made to the federal government alongside other scientists and researchers across the country.
Monday, September 26, 2022 – Senator Peter M. Boehm, Chair of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade, speaks with NATO Association of Canada interns about global security challenges, the state of the international alliance, life in the public service and the role of the sherpa during G7 and G20 summits. He also discussed security imperatives facing Canada and the invasion of Ukraine.
Wednesday, September 28, 2022 – Senator Ratna Omidvar meets with students from the International Students Overcoming War project from Wilfred Laurier University to discuss how to better equip students from conflict zones to study safely in Canada.
