The Subcommittee of the Boreal Forest of the Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met at 9:00 a.m. this day, in Miramichi, New Brunswick, RCAF Wing, the Chair, the Honourable Senator Nicholas W. Taylor, presiding.
Members of the subcommittee present: The Honourable Senators Robichaud, P.C., Stratton and Taylor (3).
In attendance: Ms Lynne Myers, Research Officer, Library of Parliament. Mr. David Newman, Communications Adviser.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to its Order of Reference adopted in the Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry on February 19, 1998, the subcommittee commenced its study to inquire into issues related to the harvest of the Boreal Forest and other matters relating to forestry which may referred to it from time to time by the committee. (See Issue No. 1, February 19, 1998, for the full text of the Order of Reference.)

Mr. Tom Spinney, Director, Forest Management Branch.
From the Conservation Council of New Brunswick:

Mr. DeBow made a presentation and answered questions.
Mr. Spinney made a presentation and answered questions.
Mr. Coon made a presentation and with Mr. Richardson answered questions.
At 9:45 a.m., the subcommittee suspended its sitting.
At 9:50 a.m., the subcommittee resumed its sitting.
At 11:58 a.m., the subcommittee adjourned.
