The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day in camera in Room 705, Victoria Building, at 10:00 a.m., the Chairman, the Honourable Lowell Murray, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Cohen, Cools, Ferretti Barth, Gill, Johnstone, LeBreton, Murray, P.C., Phillips and Poy (9).
Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Roche and Wilson (2).
In attendance: From Canadian Policy Research Networks Inc.: Judith Maxwell and Denis Saint-Martin; from Delta Media Inc.: Sheena Pennie and Marie-Josée Bernier; from the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Sandra Harder.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on November 5, 1997, the committee resumed consideration of the special study to examine and report on the state of health care in Canada concerning veterans of war and Canadian Service persons (for complete text of Order of Reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 3, dated December 16, 1997);

The question being put on the motion, it was agreed.
The Honourable Senator Cohen moved that the Subcommittee on Veterans Affairs be delegated permission to travel in order to complete its study of veterans' hospitals.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, June 18, 1998, the committee resumed consideration of the special study on the dimensions of social cohesion in Canada in the context of globalization and other economic and structural forces that influence trust and reciprocity among Canadians (for complete text of Order of Reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 17, dated September 29, 1998).
The committee discussed the special study on social cohesion.
It was agreed that the suggestions made by senators would be formulated into a proposal on how to proceed with the study into 1999.
At 11:30 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
