The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day in Room 705, Victoria Building, at 3:35 p.m., the Chairman, the Honourable Lowell Murray, P.C., presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Ferretti Barth, Gill, Murray, P.C., and Poy (4).

In attendance: Mark Audcent, Law Clerk and Parliamentary Counsel.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, June 16, 1999, the committee began its consideration of Bill S-30, An Act to amend the Act of incorporation of the Board of Elders of the Canadian District of the Moravian Church in America.

WITNESS:

The Honourable Nicholas W. Taylor (Sponsor of the Bill).

The Honourable Nicholas W. Taylor made a statement and answered questions.

The Law Clerk answered a question and provided an opinion on the bill.

It was agreed, -- That the committee proceed to clause-by-clause consideration of Bill S-30.

It was agreed, -- That the Title stand postponed.

It was agreed, -- That the Preamble stand postponed.

It was agreed, -- That clause 1 carry.

It was agreed, -- That clause 2 carry.
