The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day, in room 705, Victoria Building, at 11:05 a.m., the Chairman, the Honourable Michael Kirby, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Callbeck, Carstairs, Finestone, P.C., Gill, Keon, Kirby, LeBreton, Murray P.C. (8).

Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Oliver, Roche, Wilson (3).

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: John Craig.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

The committee continued its consideration of the subject matter of Bill C-6, An Act to support and promote electronic commerce by protecting personal information that is collected, used or disclosed in certain circumstances, by providing for the use of electronic means to communicate or record information or transactions and by amending the Canada Evidence Act, the Statutory Instruments Act and the Statute Revision Act. Ms Lindberg made a statement and, together with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 12:10 p.m. the sitting was suspended.

At. 12:22 p.m. the sitting resumed.

The minister made a statement and together with the other witnesses, answered questions.

It was moved by Senator LeBreton -- That Senator Murray replace Senator LeBreton as a member of the Steering Committee during her absence for the committee's study of the subject matter of Bill C-6.

The question being put on the motion, it was agreed.

At 1:56 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
