The Standing Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources met this day, in room Glen 206, Telus Convention Centre, at 9:25 a.m., the Chair, the Honourable Tommy Banks, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Adams, Banks, Milne and Spivak (4).

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Lynne Myers, Research Analyst, Science and Technology and Frédéric Beauregard-Tellier, Economics Division.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, October 19, 2004, the committee continued its study of emerging issues related to its mandate. (For complete text of Order of Reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1)

Marlo Raynolds, Executive Director.

Canadian Hydro Developers:

Steve O'Gorman, Manager, Business Development & Marketing.

Vision Quest:

Theresa Howland, Manager, Green Energy Marketing, 2005 Chair of the Canadian Wind Energy Association;

Jason Edworthy, Managing Director, External Relations.

Suncor:

Jim Provias, Vice-President, Renewable Energy and Business Development.

EPCOR:

David A. Lewin, Senior Vice-President, Sustainable Development;

Tim Boston, Director, Government Relations.

Alberta Energy Research Institute:

Duke du Plessis, Senior Research Manager, Clean Power and Petroleum Technologies;

Eddy Isaacs, Managing Director.

The Chair made an opening statement.

Mr. Raynolds made a presentation and answered questions.

Mr. O'Gorman, Ms. Howland, Mr. Edworthy, Mr. Provias and Mr. Lewin each made a presentation and answered questions.

Mr. Isaacs and Mr. du Plessis made a joint presentation and answered questions.

The Chair made a closing statement.

At 1:10 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.

At 3:35 p.m., the committee resumed.

At 4 p.m., Senator Milne (Acting Chairman) takes the Chair.

Mr. Nikiforuk and Mr. Fortin each made a presentation and answered questions.

Mr. McGuire answered questions.

The Acting Chairman made a closing statement.

At 4:45 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
