The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Scienceand Technology met in camera at 4:14 p.m. this day, in room 705, Victoria Building, the Honourable Michael Kirby presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Callbeck, Carstairs, Cochrane, Cordy, Eggleton, P.C., Fairbairn, P.C., Keon and Trenholme Counsell (8).
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament Research Branch: Tim Riordan, Research Analyst, Political and Social Affairs Division.
Pursuant to rule 92(2)(e) the committee met in camera for the purpose of considering a draft agenda.
It was agreed that senators' staff be permitted to stay.
At 4:47 p.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the Chair.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Callbeck, Champagne P.C., Cochrane, Cordy, Kirby, Pépin, Peterson, P.C., and Trenholme Counsell (8).
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament Research Branch: Dominique Valiquet, Research Analyst, Law and Government Division and Tim Riordan, Research Analyst, Political and Social Affairs Division.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, May 10, 2006, the committee began its examination on Bill S-211, to amend the Criminal Code (lottery schemes).

The Honourable Senator Jean Lapointe, Sponsor of the Bill.
Pascal Charron, Political Adviser.
The Honourable Senator Lapointe made a statement. Together the witnesses answered questions.
Pursuant to rule 96(7), with leave of the committee, it was agreed that the committee dispense with clause-by-clause consideration of Bill S-211 and that the Chair report the bill, without amendment, at the next sitting of the Senate.
At 12:01 p.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the Chair.
