The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day at 4:09 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Art Eggleton, P.C., presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Callbeck, Cordy, Dyck, Eaton, Eggleton, P.C., Fairbairn, P.C., Keon, Martin, Munson, Ogilvie, Pépin, and Segal (12).
Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Banks, Day, McCoy and Mercer (4).
In attendance: Trina Wall and Havi Echenberg, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, October 7, 2009, the committee began its study on Bill C-6, An Act respecting the safety of consumer products.
WITNESSES:
Health Canada:
Paul Glover, Assistant Deputy Minister, Healthy Environments and Consumer Safety Branch;
Robert Ianiro, Director, Consumer Product Safety;
Charles Ethier, Director General, Consumer Product Safety Directorate;
Diane Labelle, General Counsel, Legal Services Unit.
The chair made a statement.
Mr. Glover made a presentation.
At 4:23 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 4:56 p.m., the committee resumed.
Mr. Glover, Ms. Labelle, Mr. Ianiro and Mr. Ethier answered questions.
At 6:15 p.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the chair.

At 12:28 p.m., the committee resumed and proceeded to consider a draft budget.
It was agreed that the following special study (Cities) supplementary budget application for 2009-2010 for the Subcommittee on Cities be approved for submission to the Standing Senate Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration.
