The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met this day at 5:07 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Percy Mockler, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Buth, Duffy, Eaton, Mahovlich, Maltais, Mercer, Merchant, Mockler, Peterson, Plett, Rivard and Robichaud, P.C. (12).

In attendance: Aïcha Coulibaly and Martha Butler, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, June 20, 2012, the committee continued its consideration of Bill S-11, Safe Food for Canadians Act. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 20.)

Mr. Mussar and Ms. Bilkhu each made opening statements and, together with Mr. Devalk, answered questions.

At 6:07 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 6:12 p.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Versteeg and Mr. Unrau each made opening statements and, together with Mr. Laycraft, answered questions.

At 7:13 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
