The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met this day at 8:03 a.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Percy Mockler, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Buth, Callbeck, Duffy, Maltais, Mercer, Merchant, Mockler, Plett, Rivard, Robichaud, P.C., and Tardif (11).
In attendance: Aïcha Coulibaly, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, June 16, 2011, the committee continued its consideration of research and innovation efforts in the agricultural sector. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)

Darcy Eddleston, Chair;
Brian Caney, General Manager.
Canadian Animal Health Coalition:
Mark Beaven, Executive Director;
Dr. Ed Empringham, Senior Project Manager.
Mr. Eddleston made an opening statement and, together with Mr. Caney, answered questions.
At 9:10 a.m., the committee suspended.
At 9:16 a.m., the committee resumed.
Mr. Beaven and Dr. Empringham each made opening statements and, together, answered questions.
At 10:04 a.m., the committee considered a draft budget application (Research and innovation efforts in the agricultural sector) for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2014.
The Honourable Senator Mercer moved:
That the following budget application (Research and innovation efforts in the agricultural sector) for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2014, be approved for submission to the Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration:
GENERAL EXPENSES $ 0 ACTIVITY 1: British Columbia 130,563 ACTIVITY 2: Ontario 22,230 TOTAL $ 152,793
After debate, the question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
At 10:10 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
