Proceedings of the Standing Senate Committee on
Fisheries and Oceans
Issue 1 - Evidence - October 4, 2011
OTTAWA, Tuesday, October 4, 2011
The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met this day at 6:05 p.m. to consider a draft budget.
Senator Fabian Manning (Chair) in the chair.
[English]
The Chair: I call the meeting to order and welcome everyone here. As you are all aware now, the minister will not be here this evening due to the votes in the Senate plus votes in the House of Commons. We had talked about convening at 7 p.m. with the minister, but the fact was that his officials were here prior to 5:00 so we would have to keep them here for a couple of hours, and I felt that it was unnecessary. We are now planning to have the minister for one hour on Thursday morning. Due to the mix-up with the email system in the Senate today, it will be a little while before we get that all straightened out. Ms. Labonté will be notifying everyone of the time and place, but we are looking at around 9 a.m. on Thursday morning, hopefully in this room because we have ample space for the minister and his staff. If we cannot get this room, Ms. Labonté will find another place and we will let you know.
Sorry about the inconvenience, but these things happen. There is not a whole lot we can do. We will go into an in camera session.
(The committee continued in camera.)
(The committee resumed in public.)
The Chair: Honourable senators, it has been moved by Senator Oliver that a special study budget application for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2012, be adopted and submitted to the Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration. The summary of expenditures is as follows: professional and other services, $7,800; transportation and communications, $130,732; all other expenditures, $42,700, for a total of $181,232.
Are there any questions on the budget?
All those in favour?
Hon. Senators: Agreed.
The Chair: Contra-minded?
The motion is carried. Thank you.
(The committee adjourned.)
