The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met this day at 9 a.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Fabian Manning, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Cochrane, Hubley, MacDonald, Manning, Oliver, Patterson, Poirier and Poy (8).
Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Baker, P.C. (1).
Also present: Claude Emery, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament; and Mona Ishack, Communications Officer, Communications Directorate of the Senate.
In attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Sunday, June 26, 2011, the committee continued its examination of issues relating to the federal government's current and evolving policy framework for managing Canada's fisheries and oceans.

Minister Ashfield made a statement and, together with all the other witnesses, answered questions.
At 10:05 a.m., pursuant to rule 92(2)e), the committee resumed in camera to consider a draft agenda (future business).
At 10:15 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
