The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met in camera, this day at 5:16 p.m., in room 505, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Fabian Manning, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Harb, Hubley, Manning, Martin, McInnis, Poirier and Raine (7).
In attendance: Odette Madore, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament; Mona Ishack, Communications Officer, Communications Directorate of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, March 8, 2012, the committee continued to examine issues relating to the lobster fishery in Atlantic Canada and Quebec. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 6.)
Pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee considered a draft report.
After debate, it was agreed:
That the report be adopted with the changes as discussed today;
That the subcommittee on agenda and procedure be authorized to approve the final version of the report, including the executive summary, with the changes as discussed today and with any necessary editorial, grammatical or translation changes required; and
That the chair be authorized to table the amended report in the Senate, at the earliest opportunity and to request a complete and detailed response from the government.
At 5:40 p.m., pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 5, 2013, the committee continued to examine issues relating to the regulation of aquaculture in Canada and future prospects for the industry. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 14.)
Pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee considered a draft agenda (future business).
At 6:11 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
