The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met this day at 6:30 p.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Fabian Manning, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Harb, Hubley, Lovelace Nicholas, Manning, Martin, McInnis, Poirier, Raine, Stewart Olsen and Wells (10).

In attendance: Odette Madore, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament; Mona Ishack, Communications Officer, Communications Directorate of the Senate.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 5, 2013, the committee continued to examine issues relating to the regulation of aquaculture in Canada and future prospects for the industry. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 14.)

WITNESSES:

Fisheries and Oceans Canada:

Guy Beaupré, Director General, Aquaculture Management Directorate, Program Policy;

Eric Gilbert, Executive Director, Aquaculture Operations, Ecosystems and Aquaculture Management;

Jay Parsons, Director, Strategic and Regulatory Science Directorate, Ecosystems and Oceans Science Sector.

Mr. Beaupré made a statement and, together with Mr. Gilbert and Mr. Parsons, answered questions.

At 7 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 7:06 p.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee proceeded in camera to consider a draft agenda (future business).

At 7:18 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
