The Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence met this day at 3:56 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Pamela Wallin, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Dallaire, Dawson, Day, Finley, Lang, Manning, Mitchell, Nolin, Patterson and Wallin (10).
In attendance: Martin Auger and Holly Porteous, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, June 22, 2011, the committee continued its study of Canada's national security and defence policies, practices, circumstances and capabilities. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)
WITNESS:
Mr. Paulson made a statement, and answered questions.
The chair made a statement and, at 5:01 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 5:06 p.m., the committee continued and, pursuant to rule 92(2)(f), the committee continued in camera to consider a draft report.
It was agreed that each committee member be allowed to have staff persons present.
It was moved:
That the draft report be adopted as an interim report of the committee and that the chair be authorized to table the report in the Senate at the earliest opportunity; and
That the chair and the clerk of the committee be authorized to correct typographical and stylistic errors in the report as needed.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted, with one senator abstaining.
It was agreed that both the Honourable Senators Dallaire and Nolin review the French version of the draft report and make changes to ensure the quality of the French version.
At 5:45 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
