The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day at 4:51 p.m., in room 705, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Kelvin Kenneth Ogilvie, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Braley, Callbeck, Champagne, P.C., Cordy, Demers, Eggleton, P.C., Hubley, Martin, Merchant, Ogilvie, Seidman and Verner, P.C. (12).
In attendance: Havi Echenberg and Karin Phillips, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
The committee considered a draft special study budget application.
It was agreed that a budget be prepared for the special study on access to post-secondary education in Canada.
The Honourable Senator Eggleton moved:
That the following special study budget application (2004, 10-Year Plan to Strengthen Health Care) for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2012, in the amount of $ 32,600, be approved for submission to the Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration:
Summary of Expenditures
Professional and Other Services $ 17,100 Transportation and Communications 0 All Other Expenditures 15,500 TOTAL $ 32,600
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
At 5:03 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 5:05 p.m., pursuant to rule 92(2)(f), the committee resumed in camera to consider a draft report.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, June 21, 2011, the committee began its study on the accessibility of post-secondary education in Canada.
At 6:27 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
