The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day at 10:29 a.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Kelvin Kenneth Ogilvie, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Braley, Callbeck, Champagne, P.C., Cordy, Demers, Eggleton, P.C., Martin, Merchant, Ogilvie, Seidman and Verner, P.C. (11).

In attendance: Karin Phillips and Michel-Ange Pantal, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, June 23, 2011, the committee began its study on the progress in implementing the 2004 10-Year Plan to Strengthen Health Care.

WITNESSES:

Association of Canadian Academic Healthcare Organizations:

Christine Power, Chair, Board of Directors;

Glenn Brimacombe, President and Chief Executive Officer.

Wait Time Alliance:

Dr. Chris Simpson, Chair;

Stephen Vail, Director, Policy and Research.

Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences:

Dr. Michael Schull, Senior Scientist.

As an individual:

Dr. Brian Postl, Dean of Medicine, University of Manitoba.

The chair made a statement.

Ms. Power, Dr. Simpson, Dr. Schull and Dr. Postl each made a statement and, together with Mr. Brimacombe and Mr. Vail, answered questions.

At 12:22 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
