The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day at 4:11 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Kelvin Kenneth Ogilvie, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Braley, Callbeck, Cordy, Dyck, Eggleton, P.C., Martin, Merchant, Ogilvie, Rivard, Seidman and Verner, P.C. (11).
In attendance: Karin Phillips and Michel-Ange Pantal, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, June 23, 2011, the committee continued its study on the progress in implementing the 2004 10-Year Plan to Strengthen Health Care.

Dr. Andrew Padmos, Chief Executive Officer;
Danielle Fréchette, Director, Office of Health Policy.
Human Resources and Skills Development Canada:
Jean-François LaRue, Director General, Labour Market Integration;
Marc LeBrun, Director General, Canada Student Loans.
Health Canada:
Robert Shearer, Acting Director General, Health Care Programs and Policy Directorate, Strategic Policy Branch;
Shelagh Jane Woods, Director General, Primary Health Care and Public Health Directorate, First Nations and Inuit Health Branch.

Dr. Brian Conway, President.
The chair made a statement.
It was agreed to allow the witnesses to make their statements and allow senators to put all their questions on the record, and that if any questions are not answered in the time remaining for the meeting today that witnesses be permitted to respond in writing, subsequent to the meeting.
Dr. Padmos, Ms. Fréchette, Mr. LaRue, Mr. LeBrun Mr. Shearer, Ms. Woods and Dr. Conway each made a statement.
At 5:05 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
