The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day at 10:26 a.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Kelvin Kenneth Ogilvie presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Braley, Cordy, Demers, Eaton, Eggleton, P.C., Hubley, Martin, Merchant, Ogilvie, Seidman and Verner, P.C. (11).

In attendance: Karin Phillips and Michel-Ange Pantal, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, June 23, 2011, the committee continued its study on the progress in implementing the 2004 10-Year Plan to Strengthen Health Care. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 3.)

Dr. Pierre Meulien, President and CEO.

Canadian Academy of Health Sciences:

Dr. Paul Armstrong, Founding and Former President.

Canadian Institutes of Health Research:

Dr. Alain Beaudet, President;

Dr. Robyn Tamblyn, Scientific Director.

Canada Health Infoway:

Richard Alvarez, President and Chief Executive Officer;

Mike Sheridan, Chief Operating Officer.

Office of the Auditor General of Canada:

Neil Maxwell, Assistant Auditor General;

Louise Dubé, Principal.

The chair made a statement.

Dr. Meulien, Dr. Armstrong, Dr. Beaudet and Dr. Tamblyn each made a statement and, together, answered questions.

At 11:25 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 11:29 a.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Alvarez and Mr. Maxwell each made a statement and, together with Mr. Sheridan and Ms. Dubé, answered questions.

At 12:26 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
