The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met in camera this day at 10:30 a.m., in room 705, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Kelvin Kenneth Ogilvie, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Callbeck, Cordy, Demers, Eggleton, P.C., Martin, Ogilvie, Robichaud, P.C., Seidman, Seth, Verner, P.C., and Wallace (11).

In attendance: Sonya Norris, Sandra Elgersma and Brian O'Neal, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, November 17, 2011, the committee continued its study on social inclusion and cohesion in Canada. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 10.)

Pursuant to rule 92(2)(f), the committee considered a draft report.

It was moved that the committee allow the transcription of today's in camera meeting, that one copy be kept in the office of the clerk of the committee for consultation by committee members present and the committee analysts, and that the transcript be destroyed by the clerk when authorized to do so by the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure but no later than at the end of this parliamentary session.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

At 10:43 a.m., pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, November 17, 2011, the committee continued its study on prescription pharmaceuticals in Canada. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 12.)

Pursuant to rule 92(2)(f), the committee considered a draft report.

At 10:56 a.m., pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, May 3, 2012, the committee continued its study on the subject-matter of those elements contained in Division 54 of Part 4 of Bill C-38, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on March 29, 2012 and other measures. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 17.)

Pursuant to rule 92(2)(f), the committee considered a draft report.

It was moved that the Senate Standing Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology fully endorse the motion adopted by the Senate on May 30, 2012, ``that the papers and evidence that have been or will be received and taken, and work that has been or will be accomplished, by the committees to which were referred on May 3, 2012, the subject-matter of certain elements of Bill C-38, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on March 29, 2012 and other measures, except documents and other material relating to in camera meetings of these committees, be referred to the Standing Senate Committee on National Finance for the purposes of its concurrent study on the subject matter of all of the said Bill.''

After debate, the question being put on the motion it was adopted.

At 12:07 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
