The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day at 10:29 a.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Kelvin Kenneth Ogilvie, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Cordy, Demers, Dyck, Eaton, Eggleton, P.C., Martin, McInnis, Ogilvie, Seidman and Verner, P.C. (10).

In attendance: Sonya Norris, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, November 17, 2011, the committee continued its study on prescription pharmaceuticals in Canada. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 12.)

Trudo Lemmens, Scholl Chair in Health Law and Policy, Faculty of Law, University of Toronto (by video conference);

Mary Wiktorowicz, Chair and Associate Professor, School of Health Policy & Management, Faculty of Health, York University.

The chair made a statement.

Mr. Lemmens, Ms. Baylis and Ms. Wiktorowicz each made a statement and, together, answered questions.
