The Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met this day at 9:29 a.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Dennis Dawson, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Boisvenu, Dawson, Doyle, Eaton, Eggleton, P.C., Greene, MacDonald, Mercer, Merchant, Unger, Verner, P.C., and Zimmer (12).

In attendance: Penny Becklumb and Alexandre Lavoie, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, June 15, 2011, the committee continued its consideration on emerging issues related to the Canadian airline industry. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)

WITNESSES:

Canadian Airports Council:

Marilynne Day-Linton, Chair of the Board, Greater Toronto Airports Authority;

Mary Jordan, Chair of the Board, Vancouver Airport Authority;

Jean-Jacques Bourgeault, Director, Board of Directors, Aéroports de Montréal.

Ms. Day-Linton, Ms. Jordan and Mr. Bourgeault each made opening statements and, together, answered questions.

At 11:02 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 11:04 a.m., the committee resumed.

The committee considered a draft budget.

After debate, it was agreed that the following special study budget application (Study on the Canadian airline sector) for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2013 be approved for submission to the Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration:

Transportation and Communications    $ 20,476
All Other Expenditures    $ 16,500
TOTAL    $ 44,176

At 11:07 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
