The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples met this day at 9:33 a.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Dennis Glen Patterson, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Ataullahjan, Baker, P.C., Beyak, Dyck, Lovelace Nicholas, Meredith, Moore, Ngo, Patterson, Raine, Tannas and Wallace (12).
In attendance: Norah Kielland and Martha Butler, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, June 3, 2014, the committee continued its consideration of Bill C-25, An Act respecting the Qalipu Mi'kmaq First Nation Band Order.

Andrew Saranchuk, Assistant Deputy Minister, Resolution and Individual Affairs Sector.
Department of Justice Canada:
Martin Reiher, Acting General Counsel and Director, Operations and Programs, Legal Services.
Mr. Saranchuk and Mr. Reiher answered questions.
It was agreed that the committee proceed to clause-by-clause consideration of Bill C-25, An Act respecting the Qalipu Mi'kmaq First Nation Band Order.
It was agreed that the title stand postponed.
It was agreed that the preamble stand postponed.

It was agreed that clause 2 carry.

At 10:55 a.m., pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, February 25, 2014, the committee continued its consideration of the challenges and potential solutions relating to First Nations infrastructure on reserves. Ms. Murphy made a statement.
Mr. MacArthur made a statement and, together with Ms. Staresina and Ms. Murphy, answered questions.
At 11:32 a.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the chair.
