The Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce met this day at 4:15 p.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Irving Gerstein, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bellemare, Black, Campbell, Gerstein, Greene, Maltais, Massicotte, Ringuette, Tannas and Tkachuk (10).

In attendance: Adriane Yong and Michaël Lambert-Racine, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament; Mona Ishack, Communications Officer, Senate Communications Directorate.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 25, 2014, the committee continued its study on the use of digital currency. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 6.)

WITNESS:

TD Bank Financial Group:

Paul Milkman, Senior Vice President and Head, Technology Risk Management and Information Security.

The chair made a statement.

Mr. Milkman made a statement and answered questions.

At 5:12 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 5:15 p.m., the committee, pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), resumed in camera to consider a draft agenda (future business).

It was agreed that senators' staff be allowed to stay in the room and that blackberries and cellular phones not be used.

At 5:20 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 5:21 p.m., the committee resumed in public.

After debate, it was agreed that the committee adopt the following draft legislative budget application for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2016:

GENERAL EXPENSES   $ 7,165
TOTAL   $ 7,165

At 5:23 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 5:24 p.m., the committee, pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), resumed in camera to consider a draft agenda (future business).

At 5:27 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
