The Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce met this day at 10:30 a.m., in room 505, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Irving Gerstein, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bellemare, Black, Campbell, Gerstein, Greene, Hervieux-Payette, P.C., Maltais, Massicotte, Tannas and Tkachuk (10).

In attendance: Adriane Yong and Michaël Lambert-Racine, Analysts; June Dewetering, Chief, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 25, 2014, the committee continued its study on the use of digital currency. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 6.)

It was agreed that senators' staff be allowed to stay in the room and that BlackBerrys and cellular phones not be used.

Pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee began in camera to consider a draft report.

Pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee considered a draft agenda (future business).

At 11:55 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 11:56 a.m., the committee resumed in public.

The committee considered a draft special study budget application on the use of digital currency for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2016.

After debate, it was agreed that the committee adopt the following draft special study budget application, as amended, for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2016:

GENERAL EXPENSES $ 16,700
TOTAL $ 16,700

At 11:57 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
