The Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce met in camera this day at 3:15 p.m., in room 505, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Irving Gerstein, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Black, Campbell, Gerstein, Greene, Massicotte, Nancy Ruth, Ringuette, Tannas and Tkachuk (9).

In attendance: Adriane Yong and Michaël Lambert-Racine, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, May 14, 2015, the committee continued its examination of the subject matter of those elements contained in Divisions 14 and 19 of Part 3 of Bill C-59, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on April 21, 2015 and other measures. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 29.)

It was agreed that senators' staff be allowed to stay in the room.

Pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee continued its consideration of a draft report.

Pursuant to subsection 12(1) and (4) of the Ethics and Conflict of Interest Code for Senators, a declaration of private interests was made as follows:

DECLARATION OF PRIVATE INTERESTS

  • By oral declaration, the Honourable Senator Tannas (examination of the subject matter of those elements contained in Divisions 14 and 19 of Part 3 of Bill C-59).

It was agreed that the report be adopted with the changes as discussed and that the chair be authorized to approve the final version of the report and make any necessary editorial, grammatical or translation changes required.

It was agreed that the chair be authorized to table the amended report in the Senate on Thursday, June 4, 2015.

At 3:38 p.m., pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 25, 2014, the committee continued its study on the use of digital currency. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 6.)

Pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee continued its consideration of a draft report.

It was agreed that the meeting scheduled for Thursday, June 4, 2015, be cancelled.

It was agreed that the committee adopt a revised work plan.

At 3:46 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
