The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met this day at 5:32 p.m., in room 9, Victoria Building.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Manning, McInnis, Meredith, Munson, Raine, Stewart Olsen, Tannas and Wells (8).

In attendance: Odette Madore, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

The acting clerk of the committee informed the committee of the unavoidable absence of the chair and deputy chair and presided over the election of an acting chair.

The Honourable Senator Raine moved:

That the Honourable Senator Wells do take the chair of the committee.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

The Honourable Senator Wells took the chair and made a statement.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Monday, December 9, 2013, the committee continued its study on the regulation of aquaculture, current challenges and future prospects for the industry in Canada. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 2.)

WITNESS:

Dalhousie University, Schulich School of Law:

William Lahey, Associate Professor of Law.

Mr. Lahey made a statement and answered questions.

At 5:56 p.m., the Honourable Senator Manning took the chair.

It was agreed:

That the committee proceed in camera, pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), for the consideration of a draft agenda.

At 6:40 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 6:46 p.m., the committee resumed.

At 7:17 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
