The Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence met this day at 2 p.m. in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Daniel Lang, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Campbell, Dagenais, Lang, Nolin, Wells and White (6).

In attendance: Holly Porteous and Wolfgang Koerner, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, December 12, 2013, the committee began its study on policies, practices, and collaborative efforts with Canada Border Services Agency.

WITNESSES:

Canada Border Services Agency:

Martin Bolduc, Vice-President Operations;

Lesley Soper, Executive Director of Enforcement and Intelligence Program.

The chair made an opening statement.

Mr. Bolduc made a statement and, together with Ms. Soper answered questions.

At 3:25 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 3:45 p.m., the committee resumed.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, December 12, 2013, the committee began its study on the status of Canada's international security and defence relations.

WITNESSES:

Conference of Defence Associations Institute:

Ferry de Kerckhove, Executive Vice-President.

As an individual:

Colin Robertson, Fellow, Canadian Defence and Foreign Affairs Institute.

The chair made an opening statement.

Mr. de Kerckhove and Mr. Robertson each made a statement and, together, answered questions.

At 5:03 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
