The Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence met this day at 1 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Daniel Lang, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Beyak, Dagenais, Day, Kenny, Lang, Mitchell, Ngo, Runciman and Stewart Olsen (9).

Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Jaffer (1).

In attendance: Holly Porteous, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on March 24, 2015, the committee continued its examination of the subject matter of Bill C-51, An Act to enact the Security of Canada Information Sharing Act and the Secure Air Travel Act, to amend the Criminal Code, the Canadian Security Intelligence Service Act and the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and to make related and consequential amendments to other Acts. At 2:07 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 2:13 p.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Berger and Mr. Rafiq each made a statement, and together, answered questions.

At 3:06 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 3:11 p.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. O'Rourke, Mr. Bennett and Ms. Palmater each made a statement, and together, answered questions.

At 3:56 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
