The Subcommittee on Veterans Affairs of the Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence met this day at 12:02 p.m., in room 257, East Block, the chair, the Honourable Joseph A. Day, presiding.

Members of the subcommittee present: The Honourable Senators Beyak, Day, Mitchell, Stewart Olsen and White (5).

In attendance: Jean-Rodrigue Paré and Isabelle Lafontaine-Émond, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, December 11, 2014 and delegated on Monday, February 2, 2015 by the Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence, the subcommittee continued its examination of Bill C-27, An Act to amend the Public Service Employment Act (enhancing hiring opportunities for certain serving and former members of the Canadian Forces). WITNESSES:

Royal Canadian Legion:

Steven Clark, Director, Administration;

Carolyn Gasser, Service Officer, Dominion Command Service Bureau.

Veterans Transition Network:

Tim Laidler, Executive Director.

The chair made an opening statement.

Mr. Clark and Mr. Laidler each made a statement and, together with Ms. Gasser, answered questions.

At 12:43 p.m., the subcommittee suspended.

At 12:44 p.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the subcommittee resumed in camera for the consideration of a draft agenda (future business).

It was agreed that senators' staff be permitted to remain in the room.

It was agreed that clause-by-clause consideration of Bill C-27 be done at a later date.

At 1:03 p.m., the subcommittee adjourned to the call of the chair.
