Senate Committee on the Arctic

Issue No. 27 - Evidence - May 8, 2019

OTTAWA, Wednesday, May 8, 2019

The Special Senate Committee on the Arctic met in camera this day at 11:34 a.m. to consider the significant and rapid changes to the Arctic, and impacts on original inhabitants (consideration of a draft agenda — future business); and, in public, to consider the significant and rapid changes to the Arctic, and impacts on original inhabitants (consideration of a draft budget).

Senator Dennis Glen Patterson (Chair) in the chair.

(The committee continued in camera.)

(The committee resumed in public.)

The Chair: Unnusakkut. Welcome to this meeting of the Special Senate Committee on the Arctic. I’m Dennis Patterson, senator for Nunavut, and I’m privileged to be chair of this committee. I’d like to ask senators around the table to introduce themselves, beginning with our deputy chair.

Senator Bovey: Patricia Bovey from Manitoba.

Senator Anderson: Dawn Anderson, Yellowknife, Northwest Territories.

Senator Neufeld: Richard Neufeld, British Columbia.

The Chair: Today, colleagues, we’ll consider a draft budget application for 2019-20 for our special study on the significant and rapid changes to the Arctic and impacts on original inhabitants, which, as you know, is in its final stage of completion.

Honourable senators, you have had time to consider the budget application before you. Therefore, is it agreed that the following special study budget application (study on the significant and rapid changes to the Arctic, and impacts on original inhabitants) for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2020, be approved in principle and that the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be authorized to approve the final version of the budget and that the budget be submitted to the Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets, and Administration?

Senator Bovey: So moved.

The Chair: All in favour?

Hon. Senators: Agreed.

The Chair: Agreed.

With that, colleagues, thank you.

(The committee adjourned.)
