The Standing Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources met this day at 5:45 p.m., in room B45, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Rosa Galvez, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Carignan, P.C., Cordy, Frum, Galvez, MacDonald, Massicotte, McCallum, McCoy, Mockler, Patterson, Seidman, Simons and Woo (13).
In attendance: Sam Banks and Jesse Good, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, May 2, 2019, the committee began its study on the subject matter of those elements contained in Divisions 23 and 24 of Part 4 of Bill C-97, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on March 19, 2019, and other measures.
WITNESSES:
Parks Canada:
Michael Nadler, Acting Chief Executive Officer;
Kevin McNamee, Director, Protected Areas Establishment Branch.
Mr. Nadler and Mr. McNamee each made a presentation and answered questions.
At 7:08 p.m., it was agreed that the committee suspend.
At 7:12 p.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee resumed in camera to consider a draft report.
It was agreed:
That senators' staff be permitted to remain in the room during the in camera portion of the meeting.
It was agreed:
That the committee allow the transcription of the in camera portions of the meeting, that one copy be kept by the clerk for consultation by senators present or by the committee analysts; and
That the transcript be destroyed by the clerk when authorized to do so by the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure, but no later than at the end of this parliamentary session.
It was agreed:
That the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be authorized to approve the final version of the report, taking into consideration this evening's discussion.
It was agreed:
That the chair be authorized to table the report in the Senate.
At 7:22 p.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the chair.
