The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met this day at 6 p.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Fabian Manning, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Baker, P.C., Eaton, Enverga, Hubley, Manning, McInnis, Poirier, Raine, Stewart Olsen and Watt (10).

In attendance: Odette Madore, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, February 16, 2016, the committee began its study on issues relating to the federal government's current and evolving policy framework for managing Canada's fisheries and oceans.

The Honourable Hunter Tootoo, P.C., M.P., Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard.

Gérald Chaput, Coordinator, Advisory Services, Science Branch (Gulf Region);

Leslie MacLean, Associate Deputy Minister;

Jody Thomas, Commissioner, Canadian Coast Guard;

Tom Rosser, Senior Assistant Deputy Minister, Strategic Policy;

Mario Pelletier, Deputy Commissioner, Operations, Canadian Coast Guard.

The chair made a statement.

Messrs. Stringer and Chaput each made a statement and, together with Mr. Swerdfager, answered questions.

At 6:58 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 7:05 p.m., the committee resumed.

Minister Tootoo made a statement and, together with Ms. MacLean and Mr. Stringer, answered questions.

At 8:03 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
