The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met this day at 5:52 p.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Fabian Manning, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Hubley, Manning, Martin, McInnis, Raine, Sinclair and Tkachuk (7).
In attendance: Odette Madore, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, April 14, 2016, the committee continued its study on Maritime Search and Rescue activities, including current challenges and opportunities. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 4.)
WITNESSES:
Transport Canada:
Donald Roussel, Associate Assistant Deputy Minister, Safety and Security Group;
Luc Tremblay, Manager, National Marine Safety Program;
Robert Turner, Manager, Navigation Safety and Radio Communications.
The chair made a statement.
Mr. Roussel made a statement and, together with Mr. Tremblay and Mr. Turner, answered questions.
Pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), it was agreed that the committee proceed in camera for the consideration of a draft agenda (future business).
At 6:50 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 6:52 p.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee resumed in camera to consider a draft agenda (future business).
At 6:54 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 6:55 p.m., the committee resumed in public.
It was agreed that the following budget application for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2017, in relation to a special study on issues relating to the federal government's current and evolving policy framework for managing Canada's fisheries and oceans, be approved for submission to the Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration:
