The Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce met this day at 4 p.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the Honourable Irving Gerstein, Chair, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Gerstein, Greene, Harb, Hervieux-Payette, P.C., Maltais, Massicotte, Moore, Ringuette, Smith (Saurel), Stewart Olsen, Tkachuk and Wallace (12).
In attendance: Adriane Yong and Dara Lithwick, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, June 21, 2012, the committee began its examination of Bill C-11, An Act to amend the Copyright Act.

The Honourable James Moore, P.C., M.P., Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.

Paul Halucha, Director General, Marketplace Framework Policy Branch.
Canadian Heritage:
Lara Taylor, A/Director, Policy and Legislation, Copyright and International Trade Policy.
The chair made an opening statement.
The Minister of Industry and the Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages each made a statement and, together with Ms. Monteith, Mr. Halucha and Ms. Taylor, answered questions.
At 4:40 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 5 p.m., the committee resumed.
At 5:19 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
