The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met this day, at 9:34 a.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Joseph A. Day, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bellemare, Buth, Chaput, Cordy, Day, Hervieux- Payette, P.C., Housakos, McInnis, Nancy Ruth and Smith (Saurel) (10).

In attendance: Sylvain Fleury and Édison Roy-César, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, October 30, 2012, the committee continued its examination of the subject-matter of Bill C-45, A second Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on March 29, 2012 and other measures. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 28.)

Ross Gallinger, Executive Director.

Borden Ladner Gervais:

Steve Suarez, Taxation Lawyer.

Canadian Advanced Technology Alliance (CATAAlliance):

Russ Roberts, Senior Vice President, Tax and Finance.

Certified Management Accountants of Canada (CMA Canada):

Richard G. Monk, Advisor of National Affairs, President and Chief Executive Officer of Msight Global Inc..

Mr. Gallinger made a statement and, together with Mr. Gratton, Mr. Suarez and Mr. Paradis, answered questions.

At 10:43 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 10:45 a.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Roberts and Mr. Monk each made a statement and answered questions.

At 11:30 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
