The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day at 4:15 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Kelvin Kenneth Ogilvie, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Boisvenu, Cordy, Dyck, Eaton, Eggleton, P.C., Enverga, Martin, Merchant, Munson, Ogilvie, Seidman and Seth (12).
In attendance: Sandra Gruescu and Sonya Norris, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, October 24, 2012, the committee began its study on Bill C-316, An Act to amend the Employment Insurance Act (incarceration).
WITNESSES:
Richard Harris, Member of Parliament for Cariboo— Prince George, sponsor of the bill.
Human Resources and Skills Development Canada:
Mireille Laroche, Director General, Employment Insurance Policy.
The chair made a statement.
Mr. Harris made a statement and, together with Ms. Laroche, answered questions.
At 5:31 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
