The Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met this day at 6:32 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Dennis Dawson, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Boisvenu, Cochrane, Dawson, Eaton, Greene, MacDonald, Martin, Mercer, Merchant, Verner, P.C., and Zimmer (11).
In attendance: Dean Ruffilli, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament; and Mona Ishack, Communications Officer, Communications Directorate.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, November 2, 2011, the committee began its consideration on Bill S-4, An Act to amend the Railway Safety Act and to make consequential amendments to the Canada Transportation Act.
APPEARING:
The Honourable Denis Lebel, P.C., M.P., Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities.
WITNESSES:
Transport Canada:
Luc Bourdon, Director General, Rail Safety;
Carla White-Taylor, Director, Rail Safety Secretariat.
Mr. Bourdon made an opening statement and, together with Ms. White-Taylor, answered questions.
At 7:05 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 7:20 p.m., the committee resumed.
Mr. Lebel made a statement and, together with Mr. Bourdon, answered questions.
At 7:41 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
