The Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met this day at 9:31 a.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Dennis Dawson, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Boisvenu, Cochrane, Dawson, Eaton, Greene, MacDonald, Marshall, Martin, Merchant, Verner, P.C., and Zimmer (11).
In attendance: Dean Ruffilli, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament; and Mona Ishack, Communications Officer, Communications Directorate.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, November 2, 2011, the committee continued its consideration on Bill S-4, An Act to amend the Railway Safety Act and to make consequential amendments to the Canada Transportation Act.
WITNESSES:
Railway Association of Canada:
Cliff MacKay, President and Chief Executive Officer.
Canadian National:
John Orr, Vice-President, Chief Safety and Sustainability Officer.
Canadian Pacific:
Glen Wilson, Vice-President, Safety, Environment and Regulatory Affairs.
Mr. MacKay made an opening statement and, together with Mr. Orr and Mr. Wilson, answered questions.
At 10:28 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
